Why are you holding yourself back?

Renee Sullivan here...

I recently had an AHA! moment and it made me think about what I was doing that has held me back for so long.

I was making excuses, but even worse, I actually believed the excuses I made on why I couldn't do things that I knew I am
"supposed to do" as an entrepreneur.

One of my biggest "excuses" is that I'm an introvert.

Now I'm not saying that being an introvert is a good or bad thing... it's just a "thing''... and that "thing" that I described myself to be - was certainly holding me back (in my mind) as an entrepreneur.

It wasn't until I attended an event a few weeks ago and had anxiety about meeting new people and talking to them that I realized just how badly I need  to work on myself and work through these insecurities.

I was so afraid that people would think I'm stupid or boring - that it prevented me from making some potentially great connections.

I was scared of the unknown.

I finally asked myself, "Why are you holding yourself back?"

It was then that I made the decision to pay for the registration to an upcoming event in January. I had previously told myself and others that I was going to the event, but I had not officially gone through with the actual registration and payment process.

I began to ignore any and every excuse that appeared (from myself and someone around me) telling me that I couldn't buy the ticket yet, and I started thinking more about why I wanted and needed to be there:

"Why do I want and need to be there?"

"First, so that I can bond and connect with people I already know who will be there... But even more... So I can meet, learn from, and get to know more people outside my usual circle (and comfort zone) who are like-minded and winning in this game of life."

I also made it a goal to have a conversation with at least 10 new people at this event. I know this time around, I will take away even more than I did at this past one.

Since I have returned from that first event,  have noticed a positive shift and things are already "going my way."

My reasons for mentioning all of this is that we've all had things that might hold us back... and the key to winning is making a decision to "conquer the fear of the unknown."
