How the Gurus Rob You Under the Radar

Here is a dirty secret that the gurus do not want you to know.

unethical marketerMany, actually too many, gurus (or major marketers) use very aggressive internet marketing tricks in describing their successes with new program launches. I use the term aggressive, but some would use the term unethical or at least very misleading.

Here is what I mean. How many times have you seen a guru email ad that says something like: “Product/service XYZ has just launched and you have to get in right now! I signed up 50 people in only one day and made XX amount of money! Don’t wait; you snooze or loose.”

I believe they did exactly that. Signed up a bunch of people and made a bunch of money.

But what they did not say is they emailed their list of subscribers. Their statement is missing some critical context. Some of the gurus have subscriber lists over 200,000 people. If you had a list that large, do you think you could get a bunch of people to sign up for one of your promotions?

Please do not get me wrong. I am not saying it is a bad thing to build a large list of contacts or subscribers. My issue is what you do with your list and how you offer products to your subscribers.

After all, when you are promoting an affiliate program, network marketing or business opportunity, you want to make it so that your efforts can be duplicated by those you sponsor. It should not be a matter of grab all the cash you can and run to the next opportunity.

If you are not providing value to your subscribers, they will unsubscribe.

Glen Palo here. I have great wife, 5 kids and 9 grandkids. I started my small business in 1996 providing tax preparation services to individuals and small companies. A number of my tax clients were small business owners operating out of their homes. Due to the seasonal nature of tax preparation, I researched creating other sources of income, particularly on the internet since these businesses could be operated from home. Along the way, I built a number of websites related to small/home business tax issues. I gradually moved into the internet marketing niche and built other websites including AchieveUSA.com, which was my most successful website. I also published ezines including “Today’s Network Marketer,” published articles including “How to Market on the Internet for Free” and “Tax Saving Tips for the Self-Employed.” Major surgery put me out of business in 2006. It took quite awhile regain my full strength and stamina. But I am back! Starting over is not so bad. I love the fun and challenge. But here is the best part, it is not hard. It’s simple when you have a plan!
